You can get a Chevy Tahoe , the cheapest of the GM triplets, up to $71,000 . That's Cadillac levels money. What happened to Chevy being the affordable brand?

Bro, blue HIDs bro?
But really, its the same way I can make the options of a Porsche Boxster cost more than the MSRP of the car itself.
They can, so they will.

Yeah, but you can get an Escalade even higher, so it's not like it's actually touching Escalade levels of posh.
You can also get a Fusion as high as an Mk. Z, a Boxster as high as a 911, or an Accord as high as a TL—wait a minute.

Don't they start at $50k+? $20k in options doesn't seem far fetched. My wife wants a suburban but not for these prices.

That's crazy.
The Yukon is only $66,500 with every option I could check.

But that's Porsche, the same people who charge you to change the color of the seatbelts.

Yeah, they got expensive. Not a huge fan.

For a 2WD LS its $45,595.

My dad bought his '99 LTZ or whatever the top trim level was for I think $30,000 or something like that. So that's huge price inflation in 15 years.

Why bother?
This is a better car.

What happened to any new car being affordable?
No really though, for that price, it should at least be a Tahoe/Suburban SS. I know that doesn't actually exist, but it would be all kinds of awesome.
Every new car is a luxury car today, both in terms of being increasingly out-of-reach as well as even the cheapest cars being loaded with features like power windows, a bunch of electronics and infotainment, 10 airbags when 2-4 are sufficient, etc.

I bought a 2002 Yukon SLT 2wd (just under the Denali) for $40k new. Sure, prices go up, but DAMN prices went UP!!

http://jalopnik.com/5961179/the-mo… There is that one on most expensive options, but there was a great article on percent based on base car values. I think the winner was a 180k optioned Cayenne.

Gotta pay for that new premium interior somehow.

For 70 grand, they could at least give you the 6.2 engine.

I just did the same thing. That could be because the SLT it technically GMC's mid-level trim and they haven't released the Denali yet.

Is it made out of baby seal skin, or cows?!

"But consumers want all that junk!"
If you don't give us any choice in the matter, then, Yes I suppose we do. And when we are given a choice, but it's between a terrible shit-box with absolutely nothing, and loaded to the gills marked-up models, guess which ones dealers are going to try and sell?
I would very much like to see a return a middle trim level. Only the basic mandated safety equipment, basic media connectivity, alloy wheels, and an available manual transmission. I bet that there would be significant sales.
Now, you can't get anything on a car with the lowest advertised price. They really don't even exist. Go visit any dealer and every car on the lot will have options on it.

Look at the price points on the Avalanche after a few years. Those trucks were ~$45000 and they sell for about a third of that now. I can see the same thing happening with these.

That's true. You can get '05 Tahoes for less than $10,000 in good condition now.

You can build a Denali. It's listed on the right side of the screen as a separate model.
Topped out it's only $63,300.

Ya its a very quick depreciation.

Isn't that an old model though?
![]() 03/01/2014 at 15:08 |

No idea.
I am willing to bet that the trend continues though. You get more kit on the "base" luxury trim levels and therefore do not have as many options to add later, thus a lower overall purchase price.
Automatch should do a story about this. If you're going to load up an SUV, get the highest trim level you can to save money.

That's a cheap ass cadilliac. North of the border, escalades for $120k

Right now, a fully loaded 2014 Platinum goes for $82,065.

I forgot we were talking Tahoes. My wife and I have been talking Suburban the last few months. Still, $45k for a stripper that will be shitty in snow. Yikes.
